why not make the most of the low value of the dollar at the moment to take a superb week's fishing in Newfoundland. For less than 2200 pounds for the week you can get a chance at trophy salmon when in late July and early August the average fish taken is 14.7lbs (Kola 12.4, Alta 11.3) . During this week between 1-3 fish/angler were between 20 and 40 lbs, and you will be casting over fish this size all day and every day. There is even the chance of hooking a 50+pounder, the salmon of a lifetime. Earlier in the season, for less than 1300 pounds you can fish the phenomenal grilse run, with between 3000 and 3500 fresh run grilse caught between 20th June and 10th July alone, during which time the average weight is around 6 pounds, rising to 8 pounds in July. The annual run in the river is over 40000 salmon/season. The river system we are talking about is Newfoundland's Humber River, set in superb scenery, with hundreds of miles of wilderness salmon fishing available. The accomodation is in very comfortable lodges (2-3 star in the Canadian rating system), all meals provided, as well as guides, local transport, and boats where appropriate. Boats are recommended when fishing the trophy fish on the Lower Humber later in the season as they can strip off several hundred yards in a matter of seconds. The bag limit is 2 fish/day. In addition to the Humber there are dozens of other nearby rivers to choose from, each with their own character, more or less accessible, some by hiking, some by canoes or small boats, and others by 4 wheel drive. There are still a few openings to fish the River Humber in 2004, so why not make the most of the exceptionally low dollar at the moment and reserve a week in Newfoundland. It is unlikely that you will ever get such a chance at such good fishing at such a low price ever again, without being offered a complemenary week.
